Astronauts carry out Genes in Space experiment on the ISS

Last week, astronauts on the ISS made history as they carried out the first successful use of CRISPR to edit DNA in space. This result was the fruit of a collaboration that began when high school students Aarthi Vijayakumar, Rebecca Li, Michelle Sung, and David Li won the 2018 Genes in Space competition with their proposal to use gene editing technology to study how DNA repair mechanisms function in space.

The Genes in Space team got to stand by as astronauts Nick Hague, Christina Koch, and David Saint-Jacques executed the winning team's experiment.
